Choquequirao to Machu Picchu Trek – 10 Day

The 10-Day version of our Choquequirao to Machu Picchu Trek takes time to visit the enigmatic Stone of Saywite on the way to the trailhead. An overnight in Cachora means you will start the trek on Day 2 at a relaxed pace. The slower pace will give you more time to learn about life in the high Andes and visit with your guide’s family along the way. A full day exploring the extensive archeological site of Choquequirao, including the white stone llamas built into their agricultural terraces, will be a treat.

Your guide will even take you to visit unexcavated sections of the ruins that other tour groups miss. The trek becomes even more challenging, and rewarding, as you continue past Choquequirao through spectacular mountains and incredibly scenic passes. Eventually you will descend into a fertile valley where you will receive a tour of a coffee plantation before reaching your final destination – the ancient city of Machu Picchu.

Choquequirao to Machu Picchu Trek – 9 Day

The name Choquequirao means “Cradle of Gold,” and this settlement was one of the last refuges for those Incas who continued to resist Spanish occupation after the conquest. On the way to the archeological site you will pass through your guide’s childhood home, and almost everyone along the trail is a relative of some sort. As a result, you will have a chance to interact with locals and learn about their lifestyles. You will have a full day on this trek to explore the Choquequirao archeological site, the famous stone llamas, and even venture off the standard tour path to visit unexcavated ruins hidden in the jungle. Beyond Choquequirao you will enter a very remote and spectacular section of the Andes, walk on an original Inca trail, and eventually pass through fertile farmlands before reaching the culmination of your adventure – the famous Machu Picchu.

Choquequirao trek to Machu Picchu 8 Day

Choqueqirao trek to Machu Picchu 8 days ; on this challenging trek visits two major Inca archaeological sites. The first site, Choquequirao, is only accessible by hiking through the Andes to the relatively newly discovered Choquequirao (The Sister City of Machu Picchu). It receives few visitors because it is so remote, and you will enjoy exploring these archeological ruins without the crowds at other Inca sites. Then the trek continues to the famous and mystical Seventh Wonder of the World, Machu Picchu, through some of the most scenic mountains on earth! This 8-Day version spends less time at Choquequirao than our 9-Day or 10-Day options in order to compress the trip length to accommodate those on tighter schedules.

Day 2: Playa Rosalina – Santa Rosa – Marampata – Choquequirao

Choquequirao Trek – 6 Day

Choquequirao is considered the sister of Machu Picchu, was one of the last refuges for those Incas who continued to resist Spanish occupation after the conquest. Because of its remoteness, it is also one of the few large Peruvian archeological sites that you can enjoy without crowds of tourists. The trek to reach Choquequirao is difficult, but you will be rewarded along the way with spectacular mountains, the Apurimac River, and perhaps even some passing condors.

This option gives you a chance to visit an extra site, the Stone of Saywite, on your way to Cachora, and an overnight in Cachora allows the first day of trekking to begin at a much more relaxed pace than the 4 and 5-day versions. You will also have plenty of time to explore Choquequirao, including the main sites, the stone llamas that are unique to Choquequirao, and ruins not yet excavated that are still shrouded in jungle and mystery.

  • Day 2: Cachora – Chikisca
  • Day 3: Chikisca – Playa Rosalina – Santa Rosa – Marampata
  • Day 4: Marampata – Choquequirao
  • Day 5: Choquequirao – Santa Rosa – Chikisca
