Lake Titicaca Tour 2 Days

Lake Titicaca Tour 2 days, Titicaca lake is situated on the border between Bolivia and Peru, has its own unique cultures and beauty. You will visit the famous floating islands of Uros which are constructed out of reeds. On Amantani Island you will hike to Pachatata, a sacred site for centuries, and enjoy incredible views of the lake and its islands. A homestay with local families will introduce you to a simple, agricultural life along with their traditional music and dance. Finally, a vist to Takile Island will give you a chance to learn about the local textile industry.

Note: Lake Titicaca is situated at 3800m (12,467ft) so we recommend you spend at least a couple of days adjusting to Peru’s high altitude before a visit to Lake Titicaca.

DAY 1: Puno – Uros Islands – Amantani island

We leave the hotel at 7:30am and head for the Puno dock to start our boat journey to Amantaní Island. On the way, we stop by the fascinating floating Islands of Uros. On a guided tour you will learn how these man-made islands were constructed and maintained, and you will be introduced to the local way of life. Beautiful local handicrafts are available if you are interested in collecting a few souvenirs.

From there we continue to Amantaní Island where locals will welcome you into their community and assign you to your host families. After lunch with the host families, we will join them for their regular farming activities. This will give you a feel for life in a rural Andean community, and you will enjoy the beauty of a simple life. Later we will follow the stone pathway through farming fields to the highest point on the island.
This lookout point is called “Pachatata” (4,115m / 13,502ft) and it has been, for many centuries, the sacred place of worship for the people of this community. From this site we will enjoy the view of the magnificent Lake Titicaca and its islands.

Back in the village, we will enjoy dinner with our host families. Folk music and dance is an important part of life in the Andes, and after dinner local families and their adopted guests will gather in the “salon communal”. A local group of musicians will play Andean music with their traditional instruments, and you will be invited to join in the joyful dance celebration. If you wish, you can even try on the local dresses, ponchos, and costumes. You will spend the night in the homes of your host families.

On the Lares Trek you will enjoy stunning views of snow-capped mountains, deep valleys, llamas and alpacas, and you will enjoy the hike in the company of your Quechua host families. Back in their village, which is off the tourist path, you will experience the ancient culture of the Quechuas as you eat and sleep with your host families, learn their weaving and farming techniques, and perhaps even join with them in their music and dancing festivities.

We recommend you combine the Lares Trek tour with our Cusco City tour (add 1 day) and one of our Machu Picchu tours (add 1 to 4 days).

After lunch we will descend 3 hours to reach our homestay in the Willoq Alto community where all the Quechua families will welcome you to their village. There you will receive a short briefing to prepare you for our next week together, and we can also plan your day in this lovely and ancient city of the Incas. The Cusco City tour lasts only half a day, so you can have some time to rest, if you wish, before we begin. Cusco is a truly fascinating place to visit. It has a unique blend of two cultures (Inca and Spanish) which gives the city a look and feel that is completely different from the rest of Peru. We will give you an excellent introduction by visiting the most significant Inca and colonial sights of this historic city, including exploring the three amazing ruins just outside the city. We pick you up from your hotel for our tour in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our first stop is Chinchero – a very interesting colonial town whose economy is still based on traditional weaving practices. Local family cooperatives will invite you in and teach you how they do their craft. Or second stop is Moray – impressive circular terraces which are considered an impressive Incan agricultural laboratory. The Salt Mines of Maras are some of the oldest mines in the world, and they are still producing pure and natural salt under the ownership of local families. After you have a chance to settle in and get some rest, we will pick you up with our private transport for our half day Cusco tour. We will wander the streets in the city center and share stories about the Incan and colonial past, visit the Inca Sun Temple (Qoricancha), and wander through a market, if you wish. We will also visit archeological sites on the outskirts of the city, such as Saksayhuaman and Qenqo. When you have had your fill, we will return you to your hotel in Cusco.

DAY 2: Sacred Valley: Chichero, Moray, Salt Mines, Pisac
This will be a long, but fascinating day as we loop through the most popular sites in the Sacred Valley. We will pick you up from your hotel and head first to the village of Chinchero, an interesting and colorful colonial town which still retains Incan farming terraces and temples. Chinchero is frequently visited because local weaving cooperatives welcome you in to learn how they prepare wool, use natural dyes, and weave beautiful textiles.

Next, we will visit Moray – circular terraces that were used by the Incas as an agricultural laboratory. They were carefully built by master engineers of Inca society to create many different micro-climates for agricultural experimentation. Nearby is the town of Maras, with its beautiful colonial church of St. Francis, and the Maras Salt Mines, still owned and managed by local community members. Since pre-Incan times, these evaporation pools, fed by a salty subterranean stream, have been farmed by local families.

After a delicious lunch in Urubamba, we will head to Pisac. The archeological site in Pisac has stunning views of the Andes, extensive agricultural terraces, temples, living quarters, and the largest Inca cemetery in Peru. If we have time, you might even be able to pick up a souvenir or two in the colorful Pisac market. At the end of the day, we will take you back to your hotel in Cusco.

Meals: B

There we will have our breakfast while enjoying the amazing views of the snowy peaks of the Humantay (5900m) and Salkantay (6217m) mountains. Before we start our trek, a short hike will take us to the beautiful Humantay Lake. After enjoying the lake, we will return to Soraypampa where a delicious lunch awaits us. Then we will begin the actual trek with a one-hour climb to our first campsite at Salkantaypampa.

From there, we can enjoy the spectacular views of snow-capped mountains before hiking down to Salkantay Lake. After, a brief rest we’ll hike the short trail to a small lake from where we’ll continue on towards the Sunset-point, just in time to watch an incredible sunset over the jungle.

When it’ll be getting darker we’ll get into our boat once more, armed with torches to seek and observe caimans. Back in the campsite we’ll have diner with the bilingual guides who are resident in this area and will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have concerning the Amazonian jungle and the Tambopata-reserve.

During this walk we’ll have plenty of opportunity to observe many different plants, exotic insects, butterflies, multi-colored birds, monkeys and with any luck also some of the larger mammalians. On the lake we’ll have some canoes to take some small trips on the water and observe the wealth and variety of wild fauna at the shores.
